Huntington Beach, California, October 26, 2026
National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) will take place October 25–31, bringing communities, public health organizations, businesses, and government agencies together to raise awareness about childhood lead exposure and prevention.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are supporting the 2026 campaign under the theme “Keep Kids Safe from Lead.” The campaign emphasizes three actions:
- Get the Facts,
- Get Your Child Tested, and
- Get Your Home Tested.
California is placing particular emphasis on childhood blood lead testing. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated its childhood lead screening regulations effective July 6, 2026. Under the updated requirements, almost all California children are considered at risk for lead exposure and should receive blood lead tests at ages one and two.
Children under six are particularly vulnerable. Federal agencies recommend taking precautions when renovating, repairing, or painting homes built before 1978, as deteriorating lead-based paint remains a primary hazard.
“National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is an important opportunity to remind California families, property owners, schools, childcare providers, and businesses that lead exposure can often be prevented,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Identifying potential sources early can help communities take action to reduce exposure. LA Testing provides laboratory services and sampling supplies to help evaluate suspected lead hazards in drinking water, paint, soil, dust, and other materials.”
