Huntington Beach, California, October 21, 2026
As California joins communities nationwide in recognizing International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), October 18–24, LA Testing is highlighting the importance of effective infection prevention practices and the professionals who help protect patients, healthcare workers, and the public.
Established in 1986 by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), IIPW raises awareness of infection prevention and the ongoing efforts to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1 in 38 U.S. hospital patients and 1 in 43 nursing home residents has an HAI on any given day.
For California’s hospitals, outpatient facilities, surgical centers, long-term care communities, and other environments where people may be especially vulnerable to infection, identifying potential sources of microbial contamination is an important component of a comprehensive infection prevention program.
“California’s healthcare and public-facing facilities have a responsibility to maintain environments where patients, staff, and visitors can feel confident in their safety,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory. “Laboratory testing can provide valuable information when facilities need to investigate potential contamination, evaluate cleaning and disinfection efforts, or better understand environmental exposure risks.”
LA Testing supports infection prevention efforts throughout California with environmental laboratory testing, microbial analysis, sampling supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Its California laboratories provide access to analytical services designed to help healthcare and other high-risk facilities identify bacterial, fungal, and viral threats and make informed decisions about environmental conditions.
In recognition of IIPW, LA Testing has sponsored an educational video addressing infection prevention and control. The video is available here: https://youtu.be/4op0-mlaNIY
