E. coli Detection by Membrane Filtration

Category Microbiology Laboratory
Test E. coli Detection by Membrane Filtration
Description

LA Testing is capable of detecting and enumerating Escherichia coli in drinking water, groundwater or surface water using a membrane filtration method.

The membrane filtration technique involves a direct plating and estimation of colony densities. E. coli is a member of the fecal coliform group of bacteria; its presence is indicative of fecal coliform contamination. E. coli conforms to taxonomic as well as functional identification criteria and is enzymatically distinguished by the lack of urease and presence of b -D-glucuronidase, which binds to a fluorogenic substrate producing a fluorogen.
