Conventional (Quantitative)

This method determines the weight percentage of asbestos in bulk samples by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis.  The initial preparation steps are sample dependent.  NOB (non-friable organically bound) samples are gravimetrically reduced, vermiculite and soil samples are milled, and friable samples are crushed with mortar and pestle.

Lengths and widths of asbestos fibers are measured and corresponding weights are calculated.
