Title California Residents Advised of Potential Environmental Exposures to Endocrine Disruptors
Introduction LA Testing provides environmental, occupational and material testing services and sampling supplies to identify a wide range of endocrine disruptors.

Huntington Beach, CA, September 9th, 2019

Exposure to chemicals found in modern society that act as endocrine disruptors has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in both humans and wildlife according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

The endocrine system regulates biological processes in the body from conception through adulthood. This includes the development of the brain and nervous system, the growth and function of the reproductive system, as well as metabolism and blood sugar levels. The female and male reproductive organs, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands are all major components of the endocrine system.

“The Environmental Health Investigations Branch of the California Department of Public Health states that endocrine disruptors are found widely in contaminated water, air, food and household products, like plastics,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Endocrine disruptors have been used in pesticides, herbicides, consumer products, pharmaceuticals and even as components in some building materials. Unfortunately, some of these chemicals may persist or remain in the body for years.”

The environmental and material testing scientists at LA Testing work to identify endocrine disruptors from indoor, outdoor and occupational settings, as well as from products. Their laboratories test for known and suspected endocrine disruptors, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), bisphenol A (BPA), perchlorate, phthalates, dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, DDT, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury and others. LA Testing has sponsored an educational video about endocrine disruptors and exposure risks that can be seen at: http://youtu.be/YLuXlOPRegU.
