Title California Residents Turn to LA Testing to Identify Environmental Allergens
Introduction LA Testing offers analytical services to help identify allergens and potential asthma triggers from air and dust samples.

Garden Grove, CA, April 9th, 2014

Although most of California has been suffering from a historic drought, many people across the state have still been suffering from seasonal spring allergies. During this time of year, trees, crops, plants and weeds are blooming. This burst of flowers is a welcome sign to many, but for millions of California residents it also means sneezing, coughing and watery eyes.

Allergies are a common condition and, for many people, spring allergies can be a challenge. Seasonal allergies are mostly caused by exposure to pollen and mold spores that are found in high levels of outdoor air during this time of year. When people with allergies come into contact with these items, their immune system releases antibodies that attack the allergens. Histamines are released into the body and trigger the allergic reactions.

Airborne pollen and mold spores can be an issue for people enjoying the outdoor weather along with those spending time indoors as the allergens can often enter buildings through open doors and windows, on people’s clothes and through the HVAC system.

There are simple steps people can take to help minimize exposure to mold and pollen during this time of year. They include:

  • Keeping doors and windows shut.
  • Driving with car windows closed.
  • Limiting time outdoors and possibly wearing a mask during outdoor activities.
  • Avoiding drying clothes outdoors.
  • Monitoring pollen and mold counts before heading outdoors.
  • Showering and washing clothes after spending time outdoors.
  • Utilizing high-efficiency air filters to remove airborne allergens.

“Allergy sufferers who experience these conditions all year long should also consider possible indoor allergens that they may be exposed to on a regular basis,” said Jason Dobranic, Ph.D., Vice President of Microbiology and Life Sciences at LA Testing and EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Sometimes, people don’t realize how many allergens can be found indoors. Common indoor allergens include mold, dust mites, pet dander, and insect and rodent allergens. LA Testing offers analytical services and sampling supplies to identify their presence indoors.”

LA Testing recently sponsored an online video about spring allergies, pollen and mold that can be seen at: To learn more about testing for indoor allergens or other environmental, health and safety issues, please visit, email or call (800) 755-1794.
