Huntington Beach, California, July 3, 2026
A Northern California food manufacturer initiated a voluntary recall earlier this year involving dozens of ice cream products distributed through its retail locations. The recalled items were sold in consumer-sized packaging without proper ingredient labeling, posing a potential risk to individuals with food allergies.
According to the recall notice, individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, or wheat could face serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if these products are consumed.
Federal regulations require strict allergen disclosure to protect consumers. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) mandates that manufacturers clearly identify the presence of any of the eight major allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. In 2023, sesame was added as the ninth major allergen under the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act.
“Fortunately, no adverse reactions had been reported at the time the recall was announced,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “This incident underscores the critical role of accurate labeling and proactive testing. At LA Testing, we partner with food producers to help ensure compliance with federal regulations and reduce the risk of costly recalls.”
LA Testing’s California laboratories provide a comprehensive range of food safety services, including allergen detection, microbial and chemical contaminant analysis, shelf-life studies, FDA import support, and HACCP testing guidance. These services are designed to help manufacturers meet regulatory standards, protect public health, and maintain consumer confidence.
