Title Indoor Air Quality Issues in California Workplaces and How to Resolve Them
Introduction LA Testing provides laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, and inspection tools to help address workplace air quality concerns.

Huntington Beach, California, December 12, 2025

The quality of indoor air in offices and other workplaces plays a critical role in both comfort and health, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) has been linked to symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. In some cases, long-term exposure to contaminants like asbestos or radon can result in serious health conditions, including cancer.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified IAQ as a growing concern in office buildings, citing common sources of indoor air pollution such as:

  • Furnishings
  • Occupant activities
  • Housekeeping practices
  • Pesticide applications
  • Microbial contamination

Ventilation system design, operation, and maintenance also play a significant role in indoor air quality. Unlike in homes, employees often have little control over the conditions in their offices, which contributes to a high number of IAQ-related complaints in workplaces.

“The only way to truly understand what is in the air that office workers are exposed to is through proper evaluation,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing in Huntington Beach. “Our California laboratories provide a full range of services, including indoor air quality, environmental, material, and infection control testing. We also offer sampling supplies, test kits, air monitoring instruments, and inspection tools to help identify and mitigate hazards in the built environment.”

To further raise awareness, LA Testing has sponsored an educational video on office indoor air quality issues, available here: https://youtu.be/KKoF_ME944g
