Title Air Quality Awareness Week 2025 and Resources to Identify Airborne Pollutants in California
Introduction LA Testing provides air testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, monitoring instruments, and personal protective equipment to detect and mitigate exposure risks to airborne contaminants in both the indoor and outdoor environment.

Huntington Beach, California, May 6, 2025

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in conjunction with partners that include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and various other federal, state, and local agencies, announced that May 5th through the 9th will be recognized as Air Quality Awareness Week (AQAW) for 2025. AQAW’s goal is to promote events that increase air quality awareness and encourage people to regularly check the Air Quality Index (AQI) in their area.

This year’s theme is Stay Air Aware. Agencies sponsoring the annual event will focus on the following daily topics:

  • Monday – Wildland Fires and Smoke
  • Tuesday – Asthma and Your Health
  • Wednesday – Indoor Air Quality
  • Thursday – Air, Animals, and Plants
  • Friday – Air Quality Resources

“In California, most residents are impacted by wildfire smoke at least once each year,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Wildfire smoke is a concern, not just for people when they are outdoors. Wildfire smoke will make its way indoors where it can degrade indoor air quality conditions and exacerbate a number of respiratory conditions, including asthmas. Unfortunately, millions of Californians suffer from asthma. Other common asthma triggers include mold and pollen, dust mites and cockroaches, as well as pet and rodent dander. At LA Testing, our industrial hygiene and environmental laboratories proudly support the efforts of AQAW. We offer indoor and outdoor air quality testing services for all of this year’s Air Quality Awareness Week areas of focus.  LA Testing also provides sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, monitoring instruments, and respirators and other personal protective equipment.”

A few years ago, LA Testing sponsored an educational video about Air Quality Awareness Week that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/XRzwmVzZspE
