Huntington Beach, California, April 29, 2025
Workers Memorial Day takes place each year in California and across the United States on April 28. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) describes it as a time to honor workers who have died on the job, to acknowledge the grievous suffering experienced by families and communities, and to recommit ourselves to the fight for safe and healthful workplaces for all workers.
Protecting the health and safety of workers is a critical function as thousands die on the job each year in the United States. Sadly, millions more are injured or develop illnesses. In California alone, there were 439 fatal occupational injuries as recently as 2023. This was a decrease from the 504 deaths in 2022. The 2023 figures include 106 that died due to exposure to harmful substances or environments, also down from 132 the year before.
“Industrial hygiene testing and monitoring services are crucial components of effective occupational programs that protect workers and help to keep employers in compliance with health and safety regulations,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “At LA Testing, we are proud to support all the dedicated industrial hygiene and safety professionals across this great state. Our California laboratories provide a wide range of testing resources, and we also offer sampling supplies, monitoring instruments, building inspection tools, personal protective equipment, and so much more.”
Several years ago, LA Testing sponsored an educational video about Workers Memorial Day that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/ksB6drQOY88
