Huntington Beach, California, March 26, 2025 April 1^st through the 7^th is recognized as Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) in California and across the world. This year marks the 21^st GAAW, an annual event started by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization to increase awareness about the dangers associated with asbestos exposure. The National Cancer Institute warns that people may be exposed to asbestos in their workplace, their communities, or their homes. Exposure over time is known to cause asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer, and various other forms of cancer. In California, asbestos was identified as a Toxic Air Contaminant back in 1986 by the Air Resources Board. “Asbestos is a mineral fiber that was used in countless building materials and products for decades,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Many of these building materials can still be found in homes and buildings throughout California and the nation.
