Huntington Beach, California, October 9, 2024 Children’s Health Month is recognized and promoted each October by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The agency emphasizes the critical importance of safeguarding children, especially those in vulnerable populations, from environmental threats in the places they live, learn, and play. According to the EPA: Children are often more vulnerable to pollutants than adults due to differences in behavior and biology, and these differences can lead to greater exposure and/or unique windows of susceptibility. Weekly areas of focus for Children’s Health Month 2024 include: 1-5: Strong Bodies and Minds 6-12: Healthy Spaces 13-19: Empowered Communities 20-26: National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 27-31: Planning Ahead “Ensuring that California homes, schools, childcare facilities, playgrounds, and other spaces where children spend most of their time are safe from exposure risks is one of the most important things we can do for the next generation,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Sadly, some children are still being exposed to substances like lead, asbestos, mold, radon, and pesticides. The good news is these exposure risks can be eliminated or mitigated if they are recognized.” LA Testing supports the efforts of Children’s Health Month with multiple laboratories in California that provide environmental and indoor air quality testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and monitoring instruments.
