Huntington Beach, California, September 5, 2024
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has designated each September as National Preparedness Month (NPM) since 2004. The month-long observance is designed to educate and encourage people in California and across the nation to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, institutions, and communities.
For 2024, the theme for NPM will focus on empowering Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities to act now to prepare for future risks and disasters.
Preparing for a disaster includes being ready for a wide range of possible events. These may include natural hazards such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, earthquakes, and even volcanic eruptions. They could also include pandemics, human-caused events like accidents and acts of violence, and even technology-related hazards.
“In California, LA Testing has been a key partner for those preparing for disaster challenges, and for those responding to these types of events,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “With laboratories throughout the state, LA Testing offers environmental, industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, infection control, and material testing services. Our facilities analyze samples for viruses, bacteria, fungi, chemicals, and radiological hazards. We also test for lead, asbestos, and countless other substances.”
LA Testing is also the one-stop provider in California for sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments, building inspection tools, and personal protective equipment. These resources protect workers and the public, and can be instrumental in keeping businesses and institutions operational during challenging times.
