Title National Healthy Homes Month and Indoor Environmental Quality Resources for California Residents
Introduction LA Testing provides laboratory services, sampling supplies, test kits, air monitoring instruments, building inspection tools and personal protective equipment to identify and mitigate a wide range of potential exposure risks in homes and apartments.

Huntington Beach, CA, June 5, 2023

Since 2016, when the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) inaugurated the first National Healthy Homes Month (NHHM), the event has taken place each June. Connecting Home, Health and You is the theme for this year.

Led by HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH), NHHM brings together many of HUD’s partners around two common goals:

  1. Increase awareness of housing-related health hazards, including lead poisoning prevention and the overall principles of a healthy home, and
  2. To encourage residents to take steps for safe and healthy homes.

“One of the weekly themes for this year’s NHHM includes home renovations,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “This is an important one because OLHCHH reports that almost 29 million homes in this country have significant lead-based paint hazards which could be easily aerosolized during a home remodeling project. Other common exposure risks encountered during renovation work include asbestos, which was used in countless building materials, as well as mold from water damage or humidity issues. Homeowners and renters should be aware of these and other potential hazards that could put their families at risk.”

LA Testing proudly supports the efforts of National Healthy Homes Month. Their California laboratories offer testing services, sampling supplies and easy-to-use test kits to identify hazardous materials and microbial contaminants found in homes across the state. They also carry building inspection tools, air monitoring instruments and personal protective equipment (PPE) to detect and mitigate exposure risks. LA Testing even sponsored an educational video about NHHM several years ago that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/RPIHUSiuDsg
