Title Clean Air Month and Improving the Indoor Air Quality in California Homes, Schools and Work Environments
Introduction LA Testing provides indoor and outdoor air testing services, sampling supplies, test kits and monitoring instruments to identify and mitigate exposure risks to airborne pollutants.

Huntington Beach, California, May 23, 2023

Back in 1972, the American Lung Association (ALA) first sponsored Clean Air Week. It was intended to be a time to educate the public about the connection between clean air and respiratory health. In 1994, Clean Air Week was expanded to become Clean Air Month which now takes place each May.

The quality of the air has a direct impact on everyone’s health and well-being. While the quality of the air people breathe outdoors is often dependent upon where they live, the indoor air quality of homes, schools and businesses can usually be more easily controlled. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to clean air and the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the combined effects of ambient air pollution and household air pollution are associated with 6.7 million premature deaths each year.

“Many people spend up to 90% of their time indoors, so indoor air quality can have a tremendous impact on their comfort, health, ability to learn in school or their productivity at work,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “Outdoor pollutants that make their way indoors, like diesel exhaust, pollen and wildfire smoke, or indoor pollutants such as mold, dust mites, animal dander, cockroach allergens, bacteria, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide, tobacco and marijuana smoke, particulate matter, asbestos, lead, pesticides, cleaning chemicals and sewer gas can be found in far too many homes, schools and buildings throughout California.”

Dedicated to helping to improve indoor environments are the laboratory testing experts at LA Testing. With multiple laboratories in California, LA Testing offers indoor environmental quality testing services, all of the sampling supplies needed to collect and submit samples, easy-to-use test kits, building inspection tools and air monitoring instruments. These resources help to analyze, control and improve the built environment. Several years ago, LA Testing even sponsored an educational video about Clean Air Month and the importance of indoor air quality. That video can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/mw1HtEJqVyU
