Huntington Beach, CA, January 18^th, 2022 A dietary supplement company in Southern California recently announced the recall of two lots of collagen powder according to information posted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The recall was initiated because the MCT oil powder ingredient contains an undeclared milk allergen. According to the recall notice: People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The dietary supplements were distributed nationwide through an online retailer, via grocery stores, and from direct sales from the company’s website. Customers with a milk allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the affected product are urged to not consume it and to dispose of it or return it to the point of purchase. “The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) requires that food labels clearly identify the food source names of all ingredients that are, or contain any protein derived from, the eight most common food allergens,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “These account for 90% of allergic reactions to food and include milk, eggs, wheat, crustacean shellfish, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, and soybeans.
