Title Celebrating Children’s Health Month in California and the Role of Indoor Environmental Quality
Introduction LA Testing provides laboratory services, sampling supplies, test kits, and monitoring instruments to identify a wide range of environmental exposure risks.

Huntington Beach, CA, October 4th, 2021

Each year, Children’s Health Month takes place in October. It is a time to recognize the importance of protecting children’s health from environmental hazards in the places where they live, play, and learn.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from their earliest stages of development through puberty, children are vulnerable to exposure to environmental contaminants, such as lead. They are particularly vulnerable because their bodies are small and still developing, so they ingest and absorb more chemicals. The agency goes on to state that children’s age-appropriate behavior also exposes them to potential hazards. For instance, they crawl and play on the floor or in the yard where they may be exposed to harmful contaminants, and they can often put unsafe items in their mouths.

In support of Children’s Health Month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed tips for all 31 days of October. They include eliminating asthma triggers, reducing mercury exposure, protecting children from mold, testing for radon, protecting against exposure to lead from old paints and drinking water, preventing carbon monoxide poisoning, and watching out for Lyme disease.

“Even with all we know, too many children in California are still exposed to microbial, chemical, and radon hazards in their homes, daycare centers, schools, and even playgrounds,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “LA Testing’s California laboratories have long been supporters of Children’s Health Month and we are pleased to offer indoor and outdoor environmental testing services. Testing is available to detect everything from mold, bacteria, and viruses, to lead, asbestos, mercury, PCBs, radon, and numerous other potential hazards. We also provide sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments, building inspection tools, and even personal protective equipment.”

LA Testing sponsored an educational video about Children’s Health Month that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/zK3mLG-JWaY.
