Last month, the New York Post published a report about the ongoing legal battle that performer Rihanna has brought against those she feels are responsible for selling her a defective mansion in Beverly Hills. The article states that in a recent deposition, the seller has said he informed the realty company of problems with the multimillion dollar home, but the company failed to inform Rihanna before the sale was completed. The singer has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the former owner of the property, engineers, inspectors and the property brokers for $8.5 million.
Lawsuits due to the presence of mold caused by construction defects occur all across the country. California has seen a number of high profile cases over the years that have garnered the media’s attention because of celebrities who have been involved in some of these cases.
Mold is a common contaminant found in people’s home. Almost any type of building may develop moisture and dampness problems from roof, window and plumbing leaks, high indoor humidity, flooding events and numerous other causes. Mold growing in an indoor environment can quickly create problems. These include ruined belongings, structural damage, a wide range of health concerns and decreased property values.
One company that has been helping California residents test for problems associated with damp buildings and its impact on mold growth and indoor air quality issues is LA Testing. “Although lawsuits involving mold in celebrities’ homes often garner media attention, these types of problems occur frequently in everything from starter homes and apartments to luxury villas,” reported Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Garden Grove facility. “The only way to know for sure if mold is a problem is to have the property and the home’s air tested. LA Testing has helped thousands of homeowners with these types of services and we are ready to help with sampling equipment, supplies and expert analysis.”
LA Testing has sponsored an educational video about mold in people’s homes. It can be seen at: http://youtu.be/kzJotpGceCI
