The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a National Great Start Award for U.S. schools and school districts that are in the initial stages of implementing the indoor air quality (IAQ) TfS Program. The EPA developed the program in 1995 and recently re-released the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools (TfS) Program. So far the program has been implemented at hundreds of schools nationwide.
According to the EPA, “The IAQ Tools for Schools Program is a comprehensive resource to help schools maintain a healthy environment in school buildings by identifying, correcting, and preventing IAQ problems. Poor indoor air quality can impact the comfort and health of students and staff, which, in turn, can affect concentration, attendance, and student performance. In addition, if schools fail to respond promptly to poor IAQ, students and staff are at an increased risk of short-term health problems, such as fatigue and nausea, as well as long-term problems like asthma.”
The IAQ TfS National Awards Program recognizes schools that have started the program and begun the process of improving IAQ in their schools. LA Testing, an affiliate of EMSL Analytical and a leading provider of mold and indoor air quality testing services for schools across the West Coast, has also been busy providing school districts with tools to help them improve their IAQ.
“LA Testing has invested considerable resources to make a number of educational tools available to school districts and concerned parents,” reported Ben Sublasky, National Director of Client Services for LA Testing and EMSL Analytical. “We encourage school officials to visit www.LATesting.com to request materials that they can use to help create a safer indoor environment,” Sublasky continued.
