Over the last several weeks regional and national media outlets have reported on a woman’s battle with a perplexing illness. Ordinary household odors were making the young woman sick and even caused her to be hospitalized in the past. Her condition deteriorated to the point that she began living in a tent in her parent’s backyard.
On September 29th area residents gathered at the American Legion Post to help raise funds for the woman. Fortunately she now knows what has been making her sick after years of searching for the cause of her illness. A doctor in Texas diagnosed her with an adverse reaction to toxic molds. Tests of her townhouse found it to be contaminated with mold that has weakened her immune system to the point that she is now allergic to many common household fragrances and chemicals.
LA Testing, an affiliate of EMSL Analytical and a leading indoor air quality (IAQ) testing laboratory, hears of cases like these on a regular basis. The company has a long tradition of providing testing solutions to property owners and environmental professionals across the area to help prevent these types of situations.
Not only does LA Testing provide the testing solutions, but the company is also dedicated to providing free information about mold and other contaminants that can be found in residential and commercial buildings. “Educating homeowners about ways to prevent or minimize mold’s presence is something that could prevent many tragedies like this one,” reported Ben Sublasky, National Director of Client Services for LA Testing and EMSL Analytical. “With increased awareness many of these cases could be prevented and LA Testing and EMSL Analytical offers testing solutions and a number of tools to help educate the public,” Sublasky continued.
